In our testings of Essential Cleaner we found the only way we were infected was from false install files. An example would be if a user is trying to watch a video but they are prompted with an error message saying they need to update their video software or video codec. The user is then prompted to install the updated file. Once installed the Essential Cleaner program takes over your system. Another way users may get installed is from a highjacked website. Once a user visits an infected site they are prompted to run a full virus scan on their computer. A download box appears and if a user clicks it they will be installing this fake security client.

If none of the above or nothing similar happend to you then you were infected from a trojan downloader virus on your computer. Bascially you got infected with the trojan that then went out and installed the Essential Cleaner onto your computer. You could of been infected for weeks and not of even known about it. It's essential that you run a full virus scan on your computer to ensure you have no other viruses installed besides just the Essential Cleaner

What is Essential Cleaner Doing to My Computer Right Now?

The nature of these threats are always changing. Essential Cleaner Manual Removal Procedures

The first step you must take in order to remove Essential Cleaner is to stop the following process. Watch the video for guidance.

• [random].exe ( Example is e1804.exe ) Your file trace will be named different.

To Stop this process you can

A. Browse to the file location shown below and re-name the file first and then restart your computer. Then browse to that file location again and delete the file.

B.  Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file

C:  Use this process explorer tool http://www.removevirus.org/process-killing-software-654  to find the location of the file and re-name it then delete after re-boot.

D:  Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file.

E:  Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

The next step in Essential Cleaner removal is to delete the following file:

Windows XP:

• C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\[random]\[random].exe
• New Path C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data

Windows Vista/7:

• C:\ProgramData\[random characters ]\[random characters].exe
• New Path C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local

Once you have deleted the above executable, Essential Cleaner will no longer be running. At this time you need to run a full virus scan. RUN THE  SCAN!. You need to ensure no other viruses are on your computer.  So many people skip this very simple step.  Take an extra few mintues and ensure you have all the viruses removed.
