If you can not run .exe programs you should first run this Fix exe associations for windows 7 file. This program is shown in the video above and will restore the .exe associations.

You need to first stop and kill off the main executable program that is running this malware.

  • Security Monittor 2012.exe ( Expect this to change and for the file to be named different. It's most likely a random file name like 2534gfj546.exe)

Know File Path Locations

XP

  • c:Documents and SettingsAll Users\Start Menu\Programs\Desktop Security 2010\

Vista / Windows 7: One of the below

  • c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

To Stop this process you can

A. Re-name the file. This is done by you browsing to the directory name and re-naming the file. Above we show the known file paths for this threat. You may also be able to boot into safe mode with networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus client, update it and run the scan. While the free trial does not remove threats the scan should let you know exactly were the file is at and you can either re-name it or delete it. Keep in mind you can not remove a file while it is running. If the virus is running you will only be able to re-name it. After that re-boot your computer and you should be able to remove it.

B.  Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file. Same as the above but only the process should not be running so you can just delete it.

C:  Use the Task Manager  to find the location of the file and re-name it then delete after re-boot. Most people will have this disabled and not working. However some users can use it the very second you log into the operating system. You have about 10 seconds to locate the file before the Task Manager will close. Once you find the file in the Task Manager you can right click it and open file location. I would also terminate it there as well.

D:  Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file. You can also create a new admin account if no other accounts exist.

The next step in Security Monitor 2012 removal is to delete the following file. You NEED to re-boot your computer first if you re-named the file as you can not remove a file that is running.

If you are unable to find the Executable you need to delete then you should boot into safe mode with Networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus Client and run a full scan.
