lol is this your new profile pic?

A New Skype attack has hit the market.  Basically you are mesaged from a contact asking you about your new profile pic.  They then include a URL.  Once clicked the message gets past onto all the members of your contact list and the attack continues on.

How to Fix the Issue.

1. Click TOOLS in Skype.

2. Choose OPTIONS.

3. Click ADVANCED.

4. Choose “Manage Other Programs’ Access to Skype”

5. Click REMOVE upon seeing “Manage API Access Control”.

While you are in the Manager Other Programs.  Remove any unknown applications you see.

Now you need to browse to the below directory and remove any .exe program you see.

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming

The AppData folder path is hidden.  You may need to show hidden files and folders.

You can access the above folder by simply typing in %appdata% in the Windows Search Bar/Run Command section

You may not be able to see file extensions.  To turn this on just follow the Show hidden files and folders guide.  You can sort the files in the Roaming folder by date.  This makes it easier to find the file you need to delete.

Once you have completed this step you NEED to run a full virus scan.  Use whatever client you trust the most.  Personally I like SpyHunter.  This is a paid antivirus client and not free.  However they do offer a free download and scan.  You can take advantage of the free scan to ensure you got everything. Malwarebytes is another great choice. They have both a free and paid client version.
