Virus Prevention

Virus prevention and protection is one of the most overlooked and misunderstood items. Everyone needs to ensure they have 3 things for their computer.

  • Active Anti-virus Protection
  • Active Spyware Protection
  • Activer Firewall

Why the term ACTIVE ?

The reason we place active above is because millions of people really solely on free security products. What they don’t realize is those free clients often times have NO REAL PROTECTION. This means they only kick in after a user has been infected. It’s like going to war with out a helmet and bullet proof vest. Sure if you get shot a Doctor can heal you but in some cases it might be a fatal shot and you will not be able to recover.

AVG is perhaps the world best known free client that has ZERO upfront protection for the free version. Things change all the time and at a later date they might have one but for now they do not. Rule of thumb is regardless of what client you get make sure it has active upfront protection.

Why did you list 3 items above and what does it all mean? The answer to this is just as honest as we can get. You need them. With out a firewall you are opening up your computer to attack. Yes your security client may save you but why take the risk. Having a good firewall can go a long ways. The new vista and Windows 7 have a built in firewall that is great so if you have one of those operating systems you are good on this end. Antivirus and antispyware are two different beasts. You need protection on both ends. To ensure your client has both you can check out your security companies website and see for yourself. Some clients that just say antivirus do have antispyware protection as well. Any security product that says”Internet Security Suit” will have all three.

One of the best ways to stay protected besides having a active protection and current updates is to practice safe surfing. Simply put do not go to malicious websites or websites you are un-sure of. For instance if you click a link from youtube or facebook and then you are prompted to install software to watch a video just don’t do it.

Close the Windows down and don’t click the link again. Do not install any program free or other wise unless you trust the website or source of the information. Too often people see free and get the program. Only to find out that yes the program is free but now you have several other programs that cause pop-ups and browser re-directs. Stay away from illegal music and movie sites. This is perhaps the number one reason for most infections. When in doubt just don’t do it.

The security client we personally use and recommend the most is SpyHunter. There is no firewall with this program but that is Ok because we just use the built in one from Microsoft.
