Fake Microsoft patches take the web by storm

Researchers from Computer Associates and Sophos are currently tracking three fake Microsoft patches. “Important Windows XP/Vista Security Update” “Outlook re-configuration” and “Update for Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express (KB910721)”. All three are fake Windows updates and they prey on users lack of knowledge for them to install it on their computer. The last one seems to be a trojan and if you have fallen prey then wer recommend you scan your computer for viruses using a known good client like Spyware doctor with antivirus here. It seems many of these are being posted on social networking sites and delivered through spam mail in mass to users. For any Windows update you should always go directly to the microsoft.com website.

The best way to detect whether a patch is real or fake is to either use the built in Windows update software or go straight to the microsoft.com website and download the latest updates for your computer there.  This is the best way to ensure you are always getting a real Windows update and not one that is fake.
