Internet Doomsday arives midnight on Monday July 9th 2012

Of all the hype I see around news stories this has to be one of the biggest no story issues I’ve heard in a while. In a nutshell, years ago people got infected with a virus that changed their DNS settings. It basically created a proxy server for all internet traffic to go through. On Monday at midnight the FBI will turn off the server they setup to route the traffic.

All in all around a few hundred thousand people will be effected by this in the United States. While this may sound shocking to some, to someone who deals with viruses on a daily basis I can say it’s a small deal. Hundreds of thousands of computers in the U.S. are infected each day with viruses. It’s very normal for these threats to add in a proxy to block internet traffic.

This is one of those things that the news companies latched onto and made a big deal off. I’m sure thousands of people have rushed to see if their computers were infected only to see they waisted their time.

Any half decent antivirus client out there will be able to detect highjacked internet settings and be able to remove this threat. No need to even check if you have an antivirus client installed. Still if you wanted to see what all the fuss is about here is a link for you http://www.dns-ok.us/ . Nothing for you to do. Just follow the link. If it’s green you are good to go.

Removing a proxy setting is VERY easy and does not take computer skill. We have a video walking you though how to do this manually as well http://www.removevirus.org/how-to-turn-off-proxy-settings

I called this one. Final news story I read on CNN talked about it just being hype. Funny as it’s all them who hyped the thing in the first place. A REAL news story would be all the people getting infected every day from malware and scammed out of money. Of course then some official may have to do something and we all know how well that works out.
