In many cases malware clients and other related viruses will change your system clock. This is all in the process of trying to scare the end user into making a purhcase of the fake antivirus client. It’s a very common trick. Back in 2008 and 09 almost every malware client changed the system clock. Since Windows Vista has come out far less clients attempt to make this change.

Manual Steps:

  1. Click “Start.” Open the Control Panel.
  2. Click “Regional and Language Options.”
  3. Click the “Customize” button. Select the “Time” tab.
  4. Set “Time Format” to “h:mm:ss tt.”
  5. Click “OK.”

You can see it’s very easy to change back. Regardless of whether your clock is in Military time or normal display time for the United States. No harm can come to your computer having the different format in there. The only time you run into trouble with the system clock is when the data is wrong. This can cause antivirus clients to not update correctly and cause update errors in Windows. In rare cases you may run into issues when logging into websites such as your Bank or other secure website. This is rare but can happen.

If you found that your system clock changed to Military time and you did nothing be sure to run a full virus scan to ensure you have not been infected with any viruses.
