Total Security 2009 also known as just Total Security is a well known Smitfraud client.  This means it is a fake security client.  If you find yourself infected with this virus then you will need to run a full scan using your favorite antivirus client to remove it.

As you will learn from the below video, this virus block the start-up of many different programs on your computer and even stop you from installing any security software like Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.  Users also report not being able to open the task manger or do a system restore.

The main goal of fake clients like these is to trick or scare the user into purchasing the bogus client.  DO NOT PURCHASE THIS FAKE CLIENT.  You will only be feeding the beast.  It seems that this client is from the same people who made System Security. We say this because it has many of the same traces files and some of them are even named after the System Security client.

This client is now also adding in a desktop highjack.  That say's something like "Warning! Your're in Danger! Your computer is infected with spyware".  This is another attempt to scare the user into purchasing the product.  Don't do it.  It's a scam just like all the fake warnings and messages.

In our testing we found that a user had to manually install this fake client.  However this is not always the case and if the client auto installed on you then you have a few other viruses on your computer besides this one.  Be sure to watch our video on how to remove this client.  It will help.

Some symptoms of Total Security 2009:

* Bogus Scan results
* Auto Scans on Start-up
* Warning coming out of a fake shield in the system tray
* Disables antivirus clients
* constant warnings of being infected as well as false statements of other trojans

Manual removal instructions for Total Security 2009 ( Please read our disclaimer bellow )

Kill Total Security 2009 processes: ( Learn How to Kill a Process Here. Opens in new Window )

  • tsc.exe
  • 14792374  ( This trace will most likely change so look for something similar in nature) Not all processes may be running

We do recommend you run a full scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus » download. Even if you do not intend on purchasing the product it will help to stop the virus from re-installing and re-activating while you manually remove it. Also it will inform you of any new changes to the file names. You may need this if it mutates. If you are unable to kill the above process because the task manager does not open for you or you can not run any of the Process killer tools we recommend then watch the video.  We will show you how to get around this.

If you are unable to open up ANY PROGRAM at all then the Total Security 2009 client is most likely blocking them.  What you need to do is right click on the Total  Security Icon and select properties.  If you can not do this then re-boot your computer and as soon as you can find the icon and right click then select properties.  Under the General tab you will see the exact path to were this threat is and the exact running process name for this program.  In our latest removal we are not seeing tsc.exe as the running program.  It will most likely be 8 numbers like 12345678.exe only random.  write down the file name and path.

The latest path we found for this is C:\docments and Settings\All Users\ Application Data\15918904 .  Browser to that folder location and open it. Remember the Application Data is a hidden folder so you need to change your view to show hidden files and folders.  There you will find your running trace file.  Re-name the file to anything else.  Now re-boot your computer.  You should now be able to access programs and download files.  Go ahead and delete the whole C:\docments and Settings\All Users\ Application Data\{random8numberfolder}

If you are unable to access certain websites or download the client Spyware Doctor with Antivirus then chances are your HOSTS file is corrupt.  Download the HOST reset tool from our side bar.  This is far easier then doing it manually.  It is simply a quick fix tool.

Delete Total Security 2009 registry values: ( Learn How to Edit Registry Here. Opens in new Window )

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\Uninstall\SystemSecurity2009\

Just delete the whole \systemSecurity2009 folder and it's contents.  BE CAREFUL and select the correct folder.  You do not want to mess up.  Deleting registry keys can be dangerous so ensure you select the correct keys.

Delete files:

  • {random8numberfile}.exe
  • totalsecurity2009.lnk

Delete directories: ( Please note that in most cases everything in the C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\19604374 and Total security folders can be deleted. Just be sure it's the correct folder ;)

  • C:\Documents And Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Startmenu\programs\Total Security
  • C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\{random8numberfolder}

Please keep in mind that viruses mutate and change all the time. Do expect the above to change around a little. However this guide should work well for you and any experienced pro will be able to follow it and figure out the traces if they mutate. If you do not feel comfortable deleting files and the like then consider purchasing Spyware doctor with antivirus or have www.onlinecomputerrepair.org remove this and all other threats for you.
