Windows Abnormality Checker is a malware client. The only real abnormal thing about this client is it's all a scam.. Over the last few months this malware has gone under at least 30 different variations. The removal process is all the same.

This client changes it's name all the time to avoid detection by Antivirus Clients and so people have trouble getting free help online to remove the virus threat. Still the main signature is the same so most Antivirus clients on the market are fully capable of blocking the install of this virus threat and more then capable of removing the virus threat.

In this guide we will teach you how to remove Windows Abnormality Checker and we will be recommending Spyware Doctor with Antivirus as your Antivirus client to prevent you from getting infected again as well as to help remove this client if you are having troubles. The SDA client has been tested and does fully remove this virus. You may need to boot into safe mode with networking to install it.

Windows Abnormality Checker

» Download Windows Abnormality Checker Removal Software

If infected by Windows Abnormality Checker then you should take necessary steps as soon as possible to remove Windows Abnormality Checker. There are both automatic and manual Windows Abnormality Checker removal procedures available which should help you out with this.

How to remove Windows Abnormality Checker: Automatic Removal

Online Windows Abnormality Checker Removal

Windows Abnormality Checker: Manual Removal procedure

In case of the manual removal procedure, at first you need to stop the following process(s):

random.exe ( Every file is named different.)

It may sound hard having to stop a running process on your computer if you do not know the name of the process you need to stop. However this virus name will make zero sense in most cases. Look for something like sbtds943vdfg.exe. The file will be all giberish.

Here Are Some Quick Tips To Stop The Process

A. Open up the task manager and under the processes tab stop the program from running by ending the task. Task Manager may not open for you. You should attempt to open it the very second you log in. Just hold down ctrl+shift+esc at the same time.

B. Browse to the known file location shown below and re-name the file. You can not delete a file while it is active. If you are in safe mode then you should have no issues just delting the file

C. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. Once installed run an update and then a scan. It will show you the exact file location of the virus and from there you can manually delete it. Please note that the free trial of SDA does not remove virus threats. Consider a purchase of the client if you are having troubles removing the virus yourself.

For Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Unique File Trace\

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\

For Windows Vista / Windows 7

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Unique File Trace\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local

The above folders is where this threat seems to normally hide. A great way to help locate the threat is to browse to one of the above folders for your operating system. (Keep in mind the Application Data and App Data Folders are hidden. See Show Hidden Files and Folders for more info on this). Now sort the files by date. You should only see a few files from the day you were infected. From this information you should be able to determine which file is the virus one and re-name that file.

If you run into issues you should download and install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You May need to be in safe mode with networking to install it. (See how to boot into safe mode)

After the traces are removed, Windows Abnormality Checker should no longer be running in the machine. So now it is time to run a complete virus scan for your machine for which you can use Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. This should find out if you have cleaned all the Windows Abnormality Checker traces and whether any other threat is still available in the computer. Now in case the removal procedure looks too complicated for you, we recommend you to go to www.pcninja.com, to get expert help. They take care of things like these professionally and will cost you very little.

Windows Abnormality Checker Registry Removal Procedures

We do not recommend you go into the registry to attempt to remove any traces of this threat. There is really not a need once you kill off the main executable. If you are concerned about any registry entries we recommend you either download a registry cleaner like PC Health Advisor to clean up the Windows registry or just run a full virus scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

Conclusion

As mentioned above this threat is very common and the above steps have worked for us time and again on removing this virus. It's not that hard of a threat to remove compared to many other malware clients on the market. One of the better Antivirus clients on the market is Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. We recommend you do a full scan using the free trial. www.pcninja.com is an online virus removal service that offers expert service to clean infected computers. They are great at what they do and based in the United Sates.

How Did I get infected with Smart HDD?

I was able to get this threat installed automatically on a system that was using an outdated web browser and having no Antivirus client on the test machine. It's very possible users may of been tricked into installing this virus thinking it was something else.

How Much Damage is Smart HDD Doing?

A ray of hope in all this is I have not seen this virus delete system files and there is no keylogger. Of course you may actually be infected with other viruses so you are better off playing it safe and not using the computer to log into social websites.

Win 7 Security Removal Video

Smart HDD Manual Removal Procedures

1.The first step you must take in order to remove SmartHDD is to stop the following processes. Your traces will NOT be the same as bellow. They will be unique to your computer.

cxdcfvgbh.exe (Fake alert from system tray).
sdfghj.exe (SmartHDD Program)

To stop the above processes we recommend you do one of the following

1A. Just download Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and run a quick scan. It will find the above traces. Than manually browse to the directory those files are in and delete or re-name them.

1B. Right click on the SmartHDD icon on the desktop and select properties. Now copy the file path into Explorer (Not Internet Explorer). Should look something like c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTemp or c:UsersYOUR USER NAMEAppDataLocalTemp . Now rename the above executables or executables that look close

1C. Browse to c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTemp or c:UsersYOUR USER NAMEAppDataLocalTemp and re-name the above executables or executables that look close

The next step in SmartHDD removal is to delete the following file: KEEP IN MIND YOU TRACES ARE RANDOM AND WILL NOT BE THE SAME TRACES. Run a full virus scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus to learn the file names.

Windows XP:

C:>Documents and Settings>YOUR USER NAME>Local Settings>Application Dataadasd.dll

c:>Documents and Settings>YOUR USER NAME>Local Settings>Application Datacxdcfvgbh.exe

C:>Documents and Settings>YOUR USER NAME>Local Settings>Application Datatmp1D53.tmp

C:>Documents and Settings>YOUR USER NAME>Local Settings>Application DatatmpBF0D.tmp

C:>Documents and Settings>YOUR USER NAME>Local Settings>Application Datatmpf4f.tmp.exe

Windows Vista/7:

c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTempadasd.dll
c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTempcxdcfvgbh.exe
c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTempsdfghj.exe
c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTemptmp1D53.tmp
c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTemptmpb0fa.tmp.exe
c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTemptmpBF0D.tmp
c:UsersadminAppDataLocalTemptmpf4f.tmp.exe

Once the above steps have been completed, SmartHDD should no longer be running. At this time you need to run a FULL VIRUS SCAN. Don't skip this step. We recommend you scan with Spyware Doctor with Antivirus because it is known to remove SmartHDD and will also pick up other viruses.

If you find this threat too hard to remove yourself and need an expert we recommend www.pcninja.com . They charge far less than others and are great at what they do.

Smart HDD Registry Removal Procedures

Removing files and folders alone is not sufficient to completely remove SmartHDD. The following keys and settings should also be removed from the Windows registry to complete SmartHDD removal:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun “[random]“

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun “[random].exe”

SmartHDD Directories:

Windows Vista/7:

C:UsersadminAppDataLocalTemp

Just run a junk file cleaner.

Smart HDD Directories:

Windows 7 / Windows Vista

c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

Windows Basic Antivirus
Windows Threats Destroyer
Windows Attacks Preventor
Windows Attacks Defender
Windows Trojans Inspector
Windows Malware Sleuth

All the above threats are bogus security products. They provide nothing but fake scan results and all the warning messages are bogus.

Example Image of the above threats

How to remove Windows Shield Tool: Automatic Removal

Manual Removal procedure

In case of the manual removal procedure, at first you need to stop the following process(s):

random.exe ( Every file is named different.)

You may find only one of these processes running in your machine. To stop the above mentioned process, you need to go to the file location and then have to re-name the file. After that, the computer has to be restarted and then you will have to browse to the file location and delete the file.

Once that is done, you will have to get rid of these files:

For Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Unique File Trace\

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\

For Windows Vista / Windows 7

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Unique File Trace\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\

The above folders is where this threat seems to normally hide. A great way to help locate the threat is to browse to one of the above folders for your operating system. (Keep in mind the Application Data and App Data Folders are hidden. See Show Hidden Files and Folders for more info on this). Now sort the files by date. You should only see a few files from the day you were infected. From this information you should be able to determine which file is the virus one and re-name that file.

If you run into issues you should download and install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You May need to be in safe mode with networking to install it. (See how to boot into safe mode)

After the traces are removed, Windows Shield Tool should no longer be running in the machine. So now it is time to run a complete virus scan for your machine for which you can use Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. This should find out if you have cleaned all the Windows Shield Tool traces and whether any other threat is still available in the computer. Now in case the removal procedure looks too complicated for you, we recommend you to go to www.pcninja.com, to get expert help. They take care of things like these professionally and will cost you very little.

Registry Removal Procedures

We do not recommend you go into the registry to attempt to remove any traces of this threat. There is really not a need once you kill off the main executable. If you are concerned about any registry entries we recommend you either download a registry cleaner like PC Health Advisor to clean up the Windows registry or just run a full virus scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

Conclusion

This virus is not all that bad. From our testings we did not see it stealing personal information or attempting to steal things like passwords for your online banking or social profiles. To be on the safe side you will want to run a full virus scan. One of the better Antivirus clients on the market is Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. We recommend you do a full scan using the free trial. www.pcninja.com is an online virus removal service that offers expert service to clean infected computers.
What is Smart Fortress 2012?

Smart Fortress 2012s is a false security client. Once installed on the users computer it acts like a real security client. All the scan results and warnings given off are bogus.

How Did I get infected with Smart Fortress 2012?

There are several ways in which users get infected. The main reason is from a drive by download. This happens when a normal website gets hacked and malisious code is installed. When you visit the website a forced download happens and the virus installs it's self. If you did not install any programs at the time you got infected then chances are you did not have a good antivirus to protect your computer. You should consider upgrading to a antivirus client that can block such infections.

What is Smart Fortress 2012 Doing to My Computer Right Now?

The scan results found by this bogus security client are all fake. The warning messages shown are also fake. Normally Smart Fortress 2012 hijacks the users desktop on XP systems and shows the following message:

"Warning!
Your’re in Danger!
Your Computer is infected with Spyware!

All you do with your computer is stored forever in your hard disk. When you visit sites, send emails… All your actions are logged. And it is impossible to remove them with standard tools. Your data is still available for forensics, and in some cases

For your boss, your friends, your wife, your children. Every site you or somebody or even something, like spyware, opened in your browsers, with all the images, and all the downloaded and maybe later removed movies or mp3 songs – ARE STILL THERE and could break your life!

Secure yourself right now!
Removal all spyware from your PC!"

From our testings we found that Smart Fortress 2012 will block executable files from running. This can make it very hard to remove.

Here are some examples of FALSE messages that Smart Fortress 2012 puts out.

Smart Fortress 2012 Warning

Windows Shield Tool: Manual Removal procedure

Windows Shield Tool Registry Removal Procedures

To be on the safe side you will want to run a full virus scan. One of the better Antivirus clients on the market is Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

What is Security Scanner?

Security Scanner is one of the nastier malware clients to hit the market as of late. This is a clone of Security Shield, Security Shield 2011, Security Tool, System Tool and a few others. If the past variants are any indication that means this virus threat will be around for a long while and will most likely infect millions of computers over the next year or so. It's a bad one.

How Did I Get infected with Security Scanner?

In most cases people get infected with Security Scanner from a drive by download or from installing the virus thinking it was something else like a software update. I tested Spyware Doctor with Antivirus against this client and it blocked the install of it and also detects the virus. Not surprised as it is the antivirus client we have been recommending for years.

What is Security Scanner Doing to My Computer Right Now?

The good news out of this is this virus threat does not seem to do any harm to files on the computer at this time. Of course these threats change over time and it always could. Not likely but it's been known to happen. From our testing of this client your internet will most likely be blocked and you will have to remove the proxy settings of your browser to get back online again.

You social profiles and banking info all seem to be perfectly safe. This client is simply trying to make you purchase the software and making no effort to steal credit card information or any of those other things.

Online Security Scanner Removal

Security Scanner: Manual Removal procedure

The main focus of your efforts need to be to kill off a single running process on the computer. Once you stop this 1 single file from running you will of gained back control of the computer!!!!

Step 1. Locate a randomly named file on your computer. Easier then it sounds. The file will be named absolute gibberish and make not sense. Something like 43dger53.exe or fgjkdfj45l2.exe. It will be hog wash.

Here is the directories we know of were this threat will most likely be. Pick your OS and follow the path.

For Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Unique File Trace\

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\

For Windows Vista / Windows 7

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Unique File Trace\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\

The above folders is where this threat seems to normally hide. A great way to help locate the threat is to browse to one of the above folders for your operating system. (Keep in mind the Application Data and App Data Folders are hidden. See Show Hidden Files and Folders for more info on this).

How to Find the File

A. Browse to the location above and sort all the files by date. There should only be 1 or two files with the date of your infection. From there re-name the file by right clicking on it and selecting re-name. You can NOT delete a file while it is in use. After you re-name it then re-boot your computer and it should be back to normal. No find that virus file you re-named and delete it. Then run a full virus scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus to ensure you are not infected with anything else.

B. The second you log into your computer hold down ctrl+shift+esc. This will bring up the Task Manager. It may not work for some people but others it will. No go to the processes tab and sort ny file name. Now go through the list and try to find an oddly named file. There may be a few but you are looking for the one that is really out of place. Once you find it you can right click on the file and select open folder location. Then terminate the running process. If you found the correct one then the fake Security Scanner virus should no longer be running. Now you can just delete the file.

C. Log into another users account that has admin access. Normally this account is not affected by the virus. You should be able to browse to one of the above paths shown and then sort by file names and pick the virus threat and hit the delete button.

D. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Connect to the internet and download Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. Run a full virus scan. SDA will find the virus threat and tell you the files name and location. From there you can manually delete the virus. Take note that the free trail of Spyware Doctor with Antivirus will find threats but it's a limited free trial so it will not remove threats. Still it's needed to ensure you have no other viruses on the computer so you need to run the scan. If you do not have an good antivirus client (YOU DON'T if you got infected with Security Scanner and it did not block the install, Then consider making a purchase.)

If you run into issues you should download and install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You May need to be in safe mode with networking to install it. (See how to boot into safe mode)

After the traces are removed, Security Scanner should no longer be running in the machine. So now it is time to run a complete virus scan for your machine for which you can use Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. This should find out if you have cleaned all the Security Scanner traces and whether any other threat is still available in the computer. Now in case the removal procedure looks too complicated for you, we recommend you to go to www.pcninja.com, to get expert help. They take care of things like these professionally and will cost you very little.

Security Scanner Registry Removal Procedures

I used to provide instructions on editing the system registry. You are better off not going in there. If you know what you are doing then I should not have to tell you how to hunt down virus traces in there. You are better served just using a decent antivirus client to find any left over traces or by using a malware client like PC Health Advisor.

Conclusion

This threat can be very stubborn and hard to remove for many people. If you need expert help we recommend www.pcninja.com. This remote computer repair company can remote into your PC and fully remove the virus. They are experts and I have been recommending them out for 4-5 years now. If you are looking for a good antivirus client I recommend you go with Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. It simply works and will help you in removing this virus threat. Chances are you may need to boot into safe mode with networking to install it if the virus is still running.

Windows Protection Master: Manual Removal procedure

After the traces are removed, Windows Protection Master should no longer be running in the machine.
