What is Security Scanner?

Security Scanner is one of the nastier malware clients to hit the market as of late. This is a clone of Security Shield, Security Shield 2011, Security Tool, System Tool and a few others. If the past variants are any indication that means this virus threat will be around for a long while and will most likely infect millions of computers over the next year or so. It's a bad one.

How Did I Get infected with Security Scanner?

In most cases people get infected with Security Scanner from a drive by download or from installing the virus thinking it was something else like a software update. I tested Spyware Doctor with Antivirus against this client and it blocked the install of it and also detects the virus. Not surprised as it is the antivirus client we have been recommending for years.

What is Security Scanner Doing to My Computer Right Now?

The good news out of this is this virus threat does not seem to do any harm to files on the computer at this time. Of course these threats change over time and it always could. Not likely but it's been known to happen. From our testing of this client your internet will most likely be blocked and you will have to remove the proxy settings of your browser to get back online again.

You social profiles and banking info all seem to be perfectly safe. This client is simply trying to make you purchase the software and making no effort to steal credit card information or any of those other things.

Our guide teaches you how to remove Security Scanner. Security Scanner removal is not all that hard. The biggest hurdle is killing off the main executable. We can help you with that. If you need advanced help we also provide information on a great remote computer repair company and as always recommend Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

Online Security Scanner Removal

Security Scanner: Manual Removal procedure

The main focus of your efforts need to be to kill off a single running process on the computer. Once you stop this 1 single file from running you will of gained back control of the computer!!!!

Step 1. Locate a randomly named file on your computer. Easier then it sounds. The file will be named absolute gibberish and make not sense. Something like 43dger53.exe or fgjkdfj45l2.exe. It will be hog wash.

Here is the directories we know of were this threat will most likely be. Pick your OS and follow the path.

For Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Unique File Trace\

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\

For Windows Vista / Windows 7

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Unique File Trace\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\

The above folders is where this threat seems to normally hide. A great way to help locate the threat is to browse to one of the above folders for your operating system. (Keep in mind the Application Data and App Data Folders are hidden. See Show Hidden Files and Folders for more info on this).

How to Find the File

A. Browse to the location above and sort all the files by date. There should only be 1 or two files with the date of your infection. From there re-name the file by right clicking on it and selecting re-name. You can NOT delete a file while it is in use. After you re-name it then re-boot your computer and it should be back to normal. No find that virus file you re-named and delete it. Then run a full virus scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus to ensure you are not infected with anything else.

B. The second you log into your computer hold down ctrl+shift+esc. This will bring up the Task Manager. It may not work for some people but others it will. No go to the processes tab and sort ny file name. Now go through the list and try to find an oddly named file. There may be a few but you are looking for the one that is really out of place. Once you find it you can right click on the file and select open folder location. Then terminate the running process. If you found the correct one then the fake Security Scanner virus should no longer be running. Now you can just delete the file.

C. Log into another users account that has admin access. Normally this account is not affected by the virus. You should be able to browse to one of the above paths shown and then sort by file names and pick the virus threat and hit the delete button.

D. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Connect to the internet and download Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. Run a full virus scan. SDA will find the virus threat and tell you the files name and location. From there you can manually delete the virus. Take note that the free trail of Spyware Doctor with Antivirus will find threats but it's a limited free trial so it will not remove threats. Still it's needed to ensure you have no other viruses on the computer so you need to run the scan. If you do not have an good antivirus client (YOU DON'T if you got infected with Security Scanner and it did not block the install, Then consider making a purchase.)

If you run into issues you should download and install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You May need to be in safe mode with networking to install it. (See how to boot into safe mode)

After the traces are removed, Security Scanner should no longer be running in the machine. So now it is time to run a complete virus scan for your machine for which you can use Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. This should find out if you have cleaned all the Security Scanner traces and whether any other threat is still available in the computer. Now in case the removal procedure looks too complicated for you, we recommend you to go to www.pcninja.com, to get expert help. They take care of things like these professionally and will cost you very little.

Security Scanner Registry Removal Procedures

I used to provide instructions on editing the system registry. You are better off not going in there. If you know what you are doing then I should not have to tell you how to hunt down virus traces in there. You are better served just using a decent antivirus client to find any left over traces or by using a malware client like PC Health Advisor.

Conclusion

This threat can be very stubborn and hard to remove for many people. If you need expert help we recommend www.pcninja.com. This remote computer repair company can remote into your PC and fully remove the virus. They are experts and I have been recommending them out for 4-5 years now. If you are looking for a good antivirus client I recommend you go with Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. It simply works and will help you in removing this virus threat. Chances are you may need to boot into safe mode with networking to install it if the virus is still running.

Windows Functionality Checker is a virus. Malware to be more accurate. This program gives off false scan results to make you think your computer is infected with a virus as well as false system warnings about how it can make your computer faster. It's all a scam. People normally become infected with software programs like this due to not having a decent antivirus client installed. Many free antivirus clients on the market let threats like Windows Functionality Checker in because those free AV clients are not really kept up to date. It's free for a reason.

Do not be taken in by this product. Purchasing it will only make the creators of this malware money.

Remove Proxy Setting so You Can Connect to the Internet Again. Not always needed.

Windows Protection Master: Manual Removal procedure

In case of the manual removal procedure, at first you need to stop the following process(s):

random.exe ( Every file is named different.)

You may find only one of these processes running in your machine. To stop the above mentioned process, you need to go to the file location and then have to re-name the file. After that, the computer has to be restarted and then you will have to browse to the file location and delete the file.

Once that is done, you will have to get rid of these files:

For Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Unique File Trace\

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\

For Windows Vista / Windows 7

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Unique File Trace\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\

The above folders is where this threat seems to normally hide. A great way to help locate the threat is to browse to one of the above folders for your operating system. (Keep in mind the Application Data and App Data Folders are hidden. See Show Hidden Files and Folders for more info on this). Now sort the files by date. You should only see a few files from the day you were infected. From this information you should be able to determine which file is the virus one and re-name that file.

If you run into issues you should download and install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You May need to be in safe mode with networking to install it. (See how to boot into safe mode)

After the traces are removed, Windows Protection Master should no longer be running in the machine. So now it is time to run a complete virus scan for your machine for which you can use Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. This should find out if you have cleaned all the Windows Protection Master traces and whether any other threat is still available in the computer. Now in case the removal procedure looks too complicated for you, we recommend you to go to www.pcninja.com, to get expert help. They take care of things like these professionally and will cost you very little.

Windows Protection Master Registry Removal Procedures

We do not recommend you go into the registry to attempt to remove any traces of this threat. There is really not a need once you kill off the main executable. If you are concerned about any registry entries we recommend you either download a registry cleaner like PC Health Advisor to clean up the Windows registry or just run a full virus scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

Conclusion

This virus is not all that bad. From our testings we did not see it stealing personal information or attempting to steal things like passwords for your online banking or social profiles. To be on the safe side you will want to run a full virus scan. One of the better Antivirus clients on the market is Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. We recommend you do a full scan using the free trial. www.pcninja.com is an online virus removal service that offers expert service to clean infected computers. They are great at what they do and based in the United Sates.

Smart Protection 2012 Manual Removal Procedures

The first step you must take in order to remove Smart Protection 2012 is to stop the following process. Watch the video for guidance.

[random].exe ( Example is gAoGm02900.exe ) Your file trace will be named different.

To Stop this process you can either browse to the file location shown below and re-name the file first and then restart your computer. Then browse to that file location again and delete the file.

The next step in System Tool 2011 removal is to delete the following file:

Windows XP:

C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Data[random][random].exe

New Path C:Documents and SettingsUSER NAMELocal SettingsApplication Data

Windows Vista/7:

C:ProgramData[random characters ][random characters].exe

New Path C:UsersUSER NAMEAppDataLocal

Once you have deleted the above executable, Smart Protection 2012 will no longer be running. At this time you need to run a full virus scan. RUN A SCAN. We recommend Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You need to ensure no other viruses are on your computer.

If you find this threat too hard to remove yourself and need an expert we recommend www.pcninja.com . They charge far less than others and are great at what they do.

To Stop this process you can

A. You can use the above folder paths to find this file. It should be hiding in one of them. You may need to show hidden files and folders. If that is the case you can read this guide http://www.removevirus.org/show-hidden-files-and-folders. Once you are in the folder you can sort the files by date. This helps to reduce the possibilities down to like 2-3 files. From there pick the date you became infected and re-name the file then re-boot and delete the file the next time you log-in.

B. Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file. Same as the above but only the process should not be running so you can just delete it.

C: Use the Task Manager to find the location of the file and re-name it then delete after re-boot. Most people will have this disabled and not working. However some users can use it the very second you log into the operating system. You have about 10 seconds to locate the file before the Task Manager will close.

D: Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file.

E: Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

The next step in Smart Protection 2012 removal is to delete the following file. You NEED to re-boot your computer first if you re-named the file as you can not remove a file that is running.

If you are unable to find the Executable you need to delete then you should boot into safe mode with Networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus Client and run a full scan.

KNOWN LOCATIONS OF THIS VIRUS

XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\local\

Vista / Windows 7:

c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

Be sure to run a full virus scan once you are done. This ensures you have gotten all the virus traces and that you have no other malware on your computer.

If you find this threat too hard to remove yourself and need an expert we recommend this remote computer repair. They charge far less than others and are great at what they do.

Smart Protection 2012 Registry Removal Procedures

Editing the Windows Registry is not recommended for most users. One little slip and you can kiss your operating system good by. It's better to just let antivirus software repair and edit the registry. You may also want to consider using the PC Health Advisor Trial Here to clean out the registry and scan for other malware.

There are keys that need to be changed due to Smart Protection 2012 changing .exe associated settings. Because there are many that need to be changed I recommend you use the exe-fix-for-win-7. You only need to use this if you can not run .exe files.

2

Conclusion

Smart Protection 2012 has it's challenges. It blocks executables and many websites while the program is running so this makes it very hard to stop. The best thing to do is find the file and re-name it and then re-boot your computer and delete it. You may also have some luck using the System Restore to send your computer back in time to when it was not infected. We do recommend you run a full virus scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and if you have troubles removing this virus from your computer and need a true expert we recommend PC Ninja

If you can not run .exe programs you should first run this Fix exe associations for windows 7 file. This program is shown in the video above and will restore the .exe associations.

You need to first stop and kill off the main executable program that is running this malware.

Security Monittor 2012.exe ( Expect this to change and for the file to be named different. It's most likely a random file name like 2534gfj546.exe)

Know File Path Locations

XP

c:Documents and SettingsAll Users\Start Menu\Programs\Desktop Security 2010\

Vista / Windows 7: One of the below

c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

To Stop this process you can

A. Re-name the file. This is done by you browsing to the directory name and re-naming the file. Above we show the known file paths for this threat. You may also be able to boot into safe mode with networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus client, update it and run the scan. While the free trial does not remove threats the scan should let you know exactly were the file is at and you can either re-name it or delete it. Keep in mind you can not remove a file while it is running. If the virus is running you will only be able to re-name it. After that re-boot your computer and you should be able to remove it.

Once you find the file in the Task Manager you can right click it and open file location. I would also terminate it there as well.

D: Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file. You can also create a new admin account if no other accounts exist.

The next step in Security Monitor 2012 removal is to delete the following file.

XP

c:Documents and SettingsAll Users\Start Menu\Programs\Desktop Security 2010\

Vista / Windows 7:

c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

Be sure to run a full virus scan once you are done. This ensures you have gotten all the virus traces and that you have no other malware on your computer.

If you find this threat too hard to remove yourself and need an expert we recommend this remote computer repair. They charge far less than others and are great at what they do.

Security Monitor 2012 Registry Removal Procedures

We used to show registry entries and still have a guide in the how to section covering editing the registry. More harm then good can come out of this. Once you kill off the executable of the virus you most likely do not need to make many registry changes. If you want to remove any corrupt registry entries consider just using a anti-virus client to find any traces and remove it with that. If you are interested in cleaning the registry fully of not only posible virus traces but other errors we recommend you use PC Health Advisor. They have a free trial that will show you all your registry keys. Also a nice simple malware scanner and a few other very nice features.

Security Monitor 2012 Directories:

XP

c:Documents and SettingsAll Users\Start Menu\Programs\Desktop Security 2010\

Windows 7 / Windows Vista

%AppData%\Security Monitor 2012
%StartMenu%\Programs\Security Monitor 2012

Conclusion

Security Monitor 2012 is a pain in the butt, however it's not the end of the world. Once you are able to terminate the main .exe you are just abou home free. That should be your focus. Be sure to scan your computer with an anti-virus program to ensure you have no other infections. RV does recommned that users purchase an anti-virus client so they don't get infected again. The best defense is a good offence and in todays world free AV clients just don't cut it. As mentioned before we like Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and if you have troubles removing this virus from your computer and need a true expert we recommend PC Ninja

Win 7 Security 2012 is a multi-rouge malware program. This client goes by several different names. It just depends on the operating system you are running. XP Anti-Spyware, XP Home Security 2012, XP Anti-Virus 2012 and XP Security 2012 as well as Win 7 Anti-Spyware, Win 7 Home Security 2012, Win 7 Anti-Virus 2012 are the other names this client may go by.

How Did I get infected with Win 7 Security 2012?

While most users get tricked into installing malware clients, I found this rouge installed for us through malicious code injected onto a website. I did not have to install anything. It auto installed while doing some live malware searching. In most cases users would be protected from malware like Win 7 Security 2012 if they had a good anti-virus client like Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

What is Win 7 Security 2012 Doing to My Computer Right Now?

This client seemed to block access to other websites while it was running. Once we disabled the Win 7 Security 2012 file I was able to surf the web just fine. It also disassociated executables from running on our first test computer. To stop this we had to re-associated .exe program in the registry. You will most likely not be able to install or run any antivirus client till you follow the manual Win 7 Security 2012 guide below.

It's important to note that the warnings this client gives off are all false. The warnings may say you are being hacked and that a keylogger is installed but it's simply not true. It's all part of the scam to trick you into making a purchase of this client.

Vista / Windows 7: One of the below

c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

To Stop this process you can

E: Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

The next step in Win 7 Security 2012 removal is to delete the following file. You NEED to re-boot your computer first if you re-named the file as you can not remove a file that is running.

If you are unable to find the Executable you need to delete then you should boot into safe mode with Networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus Client and run a full scan.

Be sure to run a full virus scan once you are done. This ensures you have gotten all the virus traces and that you have no other malware on your computer.

If you find this threat too hard to remove yourself and need an expert we recommend this remote computer repair. They charge far less than others and are great at what they do.

Win 7 Security 2012 Registry Removal Procedures

Editing the Windows Registry is not recommended for most users. One little slip and you can kiss your operating system good by. It's better to just let antivirus software repair and edit the registry. You may also want to consider using the PC Health Advisor Trial Here to clean out the registry and scan for other malware.

There are keys that need to be changed due to Win 7 Security 2012 changing .exe associated settings. Because there are many that need to be changed I recommend you use the exe-fix-for-win-7. You only need to use this if you can not run .exe files.

Win 7 Security 2012 Directories:

XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Win 7 Security 2012

Windows 7 / Windows Vista

%AppData%\Win 7 Security 2012
%StartMenu%\Programs\Win 7 Security 2012

Conclusion

Win 7 Security 2012 has it's challenges.

What is AV Secure 2012?

AV Secure 2012 is a scam anti-virus client. It tells the users that they are infected with viruses but in reality the AV Security 2012 security client is the virus. This kind of virus is known as malware. AV Secure 2012 is a clone of several other similar threats out there. Only the name of the threat has changed to avoid detection. Some of it's past versions are AV security 2012, Cloud Protection, Av Guard Online, OpenCloud Security, OpenCloud Antivirus, BlueFlare Antivirus, Milestone Antivirus, Wireshark Antivirus, Sysinternals Antivirus, XJR Antivirus, AKM Antivirus 2010 Pro, Your PC Protector. Big list. I'm sure we are missing one or two of the clients that came out.

This AV Secure 2012 Removal Guide Contains

1. A Manual AV Secure 2012 Guide with plenty of Tips

2. A Video showing you how to Re-set Your Web browser

How Did I get infected with AV Secure 2012?

In a recent report given out by Microsoft. 44.8% of people infected with malware got it by installing it themselves. This does not mean the peron intentionally installed the threat. Most likely they thought they were installing a security update, video codec or video update. It's only after the user hits install that they realize they just installed a virus. You could of been infected buy a USB device, an autorun network or from a file infector. There really is no way for me to know as I was not there.

What is AV Secure 2012 Doing to My Computer Right Now?

AV Secure 2012 will block most executables from running. This means you may have trouble installing or running programs on your computer. The makers of this virus do this so it's harder for you to remove the virus threat. Very sneaky. The malware client will also re-direct your web searches and will most likely place a proxy setting on your web browser so you have trouble visiting websites. We have included a video below that walks you though removing a proxy in your browser and even resetting your browser. You can find out more or read the manual guide under the how to section of this webiste.

It's important to note that at this time we do not see this malware client stealing bank information or passwords and user names. Your e-mail, bank and social profiles should be ok. However you will need to run a full virus scan once you remove AV Secure 2012 to make sure you are not infected with anything else.

What Do I Do To Remove AV Secure 2012?

This guide will cover three main options to help you remove AV Secure 2012. The how to remove AV Secure 2012 manual guide provides you a manual way to remove this threat. It's tried and true and should work for you. If you have issues just post your questions and we will do our best to help you out. Just be sure to include the information required at the bottom of this page. We also recommend a anti-virus client for you to use. We like Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You may need to boot into safe mode with networking to download and install the client. If you do not know how you can learn how to boot into safe mode under the How To Guides section. The last option we talk about is having an expert remote into your computer and remove this virus for you. This is the option I recommend to every non savy computer user. It's cheap, quick and get the job done right the first time around.

AV Secure 2012 Manual Removal Procedures

We need to first kill off the main .exe file that is causing AV Secure 2012 to run.

AV Secure 2012.exe ( It will not be called this. This is an example) You are basically looking for a file that is shown in the path laid out below. If you boot into safe mode you should be able to just delete this file. It will be a random file like 4536f942.exe. The file name will make no logical sense.

Know File Path Locations

XP

C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\ApplicationData\Local\Temp\

Vista / Windows 7: One of the below

c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Temp\

C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\

To Stop this process you can

A. Browse to each of the file location above and locate the .exe file. you may need to show hidden files and folders. Once you are in the folder you can sort the files by date. You may need to change the view in order to have this option. Sorting files by date will eliminate all but a small handful of files. From there it should be rather easy to determine which file is the virus. You can now right click on the file and re-name it. After that you will have to re-boot your computer. You can not delete a file while it is in use. After you re-boot the virus threat should not be loading.

B. Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file as shown above.

C: Use the Task Manager to find the location of the file and re-name it then delete after re-boot. Most people will have this disabled and not working. However some users can use it the very second you log into the operating system. You have about 4 seconds to locate the file before the Task Manager will close.

D: Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file. If no other admin account exists you may be able to create one and log in that way. HINT: You can also download and install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus from another account and run the full virus scan to help you locate the virus threat.

E: Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

F: If you boot into safe mode with networking you should be able to install an antivirus client and run a full virus scan to locate the location of the virus. Spyware Doctor with Antivirus will be able to find this virus threat in the free trial. However it does not remove threats unless you were to purchase the software. With that being said you can still use it to help locate the virus location as the scan results do show the location of the virus threat.

The next step in AV Secure 2012 removal is to delete the following file. You NEED to re-boot your computer first if you re-named the file as you can not remove a file that is running. The above kind of already covered this.

I personally use Spyware Doctor with Antivirus

If you find this threat too hard to remove yourself and need an expert we recommend this computer repair company. They charge far less than others and are great at what they do. The name of the company is pcninja.com I have been recommending out this service for 4 years now.

AV Secure 2012 Registry Removal Procedures

Editing the Windows Registry is not recommended for most users. One little slip and you can kiss your operating system good by. It's better to just let antivirus software repair and edit the registry. You may also want to consider using the PC Health Advisor Trial Here to clean out the registry and scan for other malware. Their are added benefits to useing a registry cleaner beside cleaning out virus entries.

Here are the registry traces for your reference only. Please help update these traces by posting a comment below

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{19090308-636D-4e9b-A1CE-A647B6F794BF}

%AppData%\AV Secure 2012
%StartMenu%\Programs\AV Secure 2012

Conclusion

This virus threat is not as bad as many out there. The hardest thing is finding the executable you need to delete. Once that is down it get's very simple to clean up the threat. In almost all cases of infection with malware the end user was not using a good anti-virus client. I love free clients as much as the next person but most do not have the latest virus defenitions and many don't evne provide up front protection to block the virus from installing. Having a paid client goes a long ways in protecting your computer so you never get infected again.

If you require advanced help or just want an expert to remove the virus than use this computer repair service. The charge is under a hundred bucks and they can often get started right away. These are real experts when it comes to malware and virus removal.

What is Cloud AV 2012?

Cloud AV 2012 is the latest malware release from the makers of AV Protection 2011 and Open Cloud Antivirus. Malware act's like a real piece of software. However it is a scam. What this program will do is show false warnings and scan results to scare the end user. The warning messages are all made up. This program is the virus.

Like many other malware products this program will block most other executables from being run and it will re-direct your web browser to other malicious sites. This can make it very hard for end users to run a virus scan or install a antivirus client. Best thing to do in these situations is to boot into safemode with networking. If you do not know how we have a guide on this under the How To Section on top.

This Cloud AV 2012 Removal Guide Contains

1. A Manual Cloud AV 2012 Guide with plenty of Tips

2. A Video showing you how to Re-set Your Web browser

How Did I get infected with Cloud AV 2012?

Normally end users get infected with malware clients like Cloud AV 2012 from installing the program themselves. What happens is the user think it's is a software update or video plug-in. Once they run the update they just downloaded they become infected. This is not always the case. You can get infected from drive by downloads that force the program onto the computer. In almost every malware infection case the end result was the person was not using an active antivirus program that provides real up front protection. Free anti-virus clients are free for a reason. They are not as good as a paid antivirus client. In today's world you need to be better protected.

What is Cloud AV 2012 Doing to My Computer Right Now?

It's not stealing your personal information. In our test run of this malware client we found that it does not allow remote entry into a computer nor does it attempt to steal your passwords or banking information. However you may also be infected with another virus that is attempting to steal personal information. The only way to know for sure is to run a full anti-virus scan. We recommend Spyware Doctor with Antivirus because it has a very high detection rate and will let you know if you are infected with any other viruses.

For the most part this threat will be re-directing you search and web results to spammy looking sites. It will also block other programs from installing and running. They don't want to make it easy for you to remove this threat. Their goal is to frustrate the bleeping hell out of you or scare you into making a purchase of Cloud AV 2012.

Cloud AV 2012 Manual Removal Procedures

The first step you must take in order to remove Cloud AV 2012 is to stop the following process.

Cloud AV 2012.exe ( You file trace will be different. It's a random file name like 45546467k54.exe that will be on your computer) See below for tips on finding this file.

Know File Path Locations

XP

C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\ApplicationData\Local\Temp\

Vista / Windows 7: One of the below

c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Temp\

C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\

To Stop this process you can

A. re-name the Cloud AV 2012 virus. Once you manage to re-name the main executable you can re-boot your computer as normal and when your computer boots back up the virus will not be running. From there you can just delete the file. To find out the virus name you can browse to one of the above file paths and look at the file names. You are looking for a .exe file that just not make any sense. Something like 234532453.exe or f345n3j34.exe. Best thing to do to narrow down your search is to sort all the files by date. You should only have maybe 2-5 files that fall within the date range of your infection. This helps to eliminate almost all files but a few. Once located, right click on the file and select re-name. Rename the file to anything you want. Then re-boot your computer as we talked about earlier.

B. Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file as shown above. To learn how to boot into safe mode see the How To Guides section on top. In safe mode the virus should not be running. Because it is not running you should be able to just delete it.

C: Use the Task Manager to find the location of the file and re-name it then delete after re-boot. Most people will have this disabled and not working. However some users can use it the very second you log into the operating system. You have about 4 seconds to locate the file before the Task Manager will close. ctrl+shift+esc will bring up the task manager.

D: Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file. Great option if you have another user account on the computer that has admin rights. You could technically create a new account from the infected account and then log into that one to delete the file.

E: Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

The next step in Cloud AV 2012 removal is to delete the following file. You NEED to re-boot your computer first if you re-named the file as you can not remove a file that is running. The above kind of already covered this.

If you are unable to find the Executable you need to delete then you should boot into safe mode with Networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus Client and run a full scan.

KNOWN LOCATIONS OF THIS VIRUS

XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Cloud AV 2012\Cloud AV 2012.exe %

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Cloud AV 2012\Cloud AV 2012.ico %

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Cloud AV 2012\sysl32.dll %AppData%\Cloud AV 2012\wf.conf

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Cloud AV 2012\%UserProfile%\Desktop\Cloud AV 2012.lnk

Vista / Windows 7:

%AppData%\Cloud AV 2012\Cloud AV 2012.exe %

AppData%\Cloud AV 2012\Cloud AV 2012.ico %

StartMenu%\Programs\Cloud AV 2012\Cloud AV 2012.lnk

At this time the virus should not be running and you should be able to move around freely. You have to run a full anti-virus scan to ensure you got everything and that no other viruses are installed. I personally use Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. It works well for me.

If you have read down to this point and have not made any headway then it may be time to call a computer repair expert. This site recommends out http://www.pcninja.com. It's a US based computer repair company out of California. All their tech's know what they are doing and you will be able to understand them should you have to get on the phone with one of them. This computer repair company can remote into your computer and fully remove all viruses. You will like the quick service and the lower prices.

Cloud AV 2012 Registry Removal Procedures

Disclaimer: Editing the registry can cause more harm then good. One wrong deletion of a registry entry and you may not be able to boot again. This is why we really do not recommend people even edit the registry to remove the left over virus traces. Use an anti-virus client or a registry cleaner. Personally I like PC Health Advisor. You can download the free trial here.

Here are the registry traces for your reference only. Please help update these traces by posting a comment below

Windows 7 / Windows Vista

%AppData%\Cloud AV 2012
%StartMenu%\Programs\Cloud AV 2012

Conclusion

This malware threat is not all that bad compared to many others I have seen over the last several years. It's not doing any file damage to your computer. It is a frustrating virus, don't get me wrong. The main part is to locate the single main executable for this program and delete it. Once you are able to do that you are in the clear and mostly done.

The best defense is a good offence. Take precautions and purchase a good antivirus client like Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. Free clients just don't hack it in today's virus world.

If you require advanced help or just want an expert to remove the virus than use this computer repair service. The charge is under a hundred bucks and they can often get started right away. These are real experts when it comes to malware and virus removal.

What is AV Protection 2011?

AV Protection 2011 is a scam product. This type of a virus is called malware. Malware pretends to be a real program. It tricks users into making a purchase of the program. AV Protection 2011 will show you scan results like any anti-virus client would. Only with this product it's all a lie. The viruses detected are not real. What it's trying to do is make you think you have a virus to get you to purchase the program.

AV Protection 2011 is a clone of Cloud Protection, Av Guard Online, OpenCloud Security, OpenCloud Antivirus, BlueFlare Antivirus, Milestone Antivirus, Wireshark Antivirus, Sysinternals Antivirus, XJR Antivirus, AKM Antivirus 2010 Pro, Your PC Protector.

What makes AV Protection 2011 hard to remove is the end users web browser will be re-directing to advertisements and the product page to make a purchase of this client. It will also stop most executables from running. This means that many programs you have on your computer will not run, including Anti-virus software.

This AV Protection 2011 Removal Guide Contains

1. A Manual AV Protection 2011 Guide with plenty of Tips

2. A Video showing you how to Re-set Your Web browser

How Did I get infected with AV Protection 2011?

Like many malware programs this one is normally installed by the end user by mistake. They think it's an update or video software. Only after opening the file do they relize they have been infected. There are other ways to get this virus installed on your computer. Normally those who have up to date anti-virus clients are not effected as the security clients block these kinds of installs. However if your using a free antivirus program and got infected it's because no free anti-virus client on the market provides solid enough protection. That is why their is always a paid version of free programs.

What is AV Protection 2011 Doing to My Computer Right Now?

As already mentioned AV Protection will re-direct search and web results. To resolve this issue you can normally just re-set your web browser. Most people will simply need to re-set the proxy settings as shown in the video below and under our How To Guides section on top. Most programs will not be able to run. If you try to install an anti-virus client it will most likely be blocked. To get around this you can boot to safe mode with networking and download and install a anti-virus client.

It's important to mention that at this time the threat is not stealing user names and password. Your bank info and social profiles as well as e-mail should be just fine. I would still highly recommend you run a full virus scan once you follow our manual AV Protection 2011 removal guide just to make sure you are not infected with anything else. On this site we recommend Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

What Do I Do To Remove AV Protection 2011?

The best way to remove AV Protection 2011 is to use anti-virus software. We say this because it will take the least amount of time, has a low cost, keeps you protected in the future and you will know if you are infected with any other virurses. You will most likely have to boot your computer in safe mode with networking to install the antivirus client.
AV Protection 2011 Manual Removal Procedures

The first step you must take in order to remove AV Protection 2011 is to stop the following process.

AV Protection 2011.exe ( You file trace will be different. It's a random file name like 45546467k54.exe that will be on yout computer) See below for tips on finding this file.

Know File Path Locations

XP

C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\ApplicationData\Local\Temp\

Vista / Windows 7: One of the below

c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Temp\

C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\

To Stop this process you can

A. Go to the file location shown above. Look for the file name. You can also sort by date. This will help you identify possible names of the threat and narrow things down. There may also be an icon next to the file that gives the threat away. Delete the file. Take note that you can sort the files by date and help rule out most files and folders. Chances are you will only have a few files that appear within the date range you first became infected. Keep in mind you may not be able to delete the file if it's active. However you should be able to re-name the file to whatever you want to call it. Then re-boot and delete the file. If you were in safe mode you should have no issues deleting the file.

E: Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

The next step in AV Protection 2011 removal is to delete the following file. You NEED to re-boot your computer first if you re-named the file as you can not remove a file that is running. The above kind of already covered this.

If you are unable to find the Executable you need to delete then you should boot into safe mode with Networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus Client and run a full scan.

AV Protection 2011 Registry Removal Procedures

Editing the Windows Registry is not recommended for most users. One little slip and you can kiss your operating system good by. It's better to just let antivirus software repair and edit the registry. You may also want to consider using the PC Health Advisor Trial Here to clean out the registry and scan for other malware.

Here are the registry traces for your reference only. Please help update these traces by posting a comment below

Conclusion

Malware can be very hard to remove. AV Protection 2011 is no exception. The best thing to do if you get frustrated is just take a quick break. If you are at your witts end then we realy recommend you just have a profesional repair your computer. We have already mentioned http://www.pcninja.com. At the time of this writing the charge for virus removal is $99 dollars. I have worked with this company several times in the past and just keep recommeding them out because they are US based and know what the hell they are doing. I can't say that for most remote computer repair companies.

The best defense is a good offence. Take precautions and purchase a good antivirus client like Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. Free clients just don't hack it in today's virus world.

Like with most Malware the hardest part is simply stopping the main executable. Once you do that it should be smooth sailing. If you require advanced help or just want an expert to remove the virus than use this computer repair service. The charge is under a hundred bucks and they can often get started right away. These are real experts when it comes to malware and virus removal.
