I have Vista and I when I get to Documents and Settings, I click on Users and the only folder there is titled Documents. How do I reveal the hidden folders at this point?
Most likely the answer is yes. If it is not running then just delete the files.

I couldn't believe that this was on my computer. I had my firewall and anti virus off for 20 minutes to set up something else and the next day this thing was on my computer. Thank you for putting this solution up because I surley would not have figured this crazy thing out. Thank you again.

ensure the Security client is up to date. Because these threats mutate all the time your trace may of just been added to the SDA client. This is very normal. Also you may want to go under settings and check the box for "Scan for hidden root kits". Then run a full scan. If you still have issues you can try to run the scan in safe mode and you can get free support via the PCTOOLS website or forum.

I downloaded the software and deleted files but when I go to open the Spyware Doctor it says it has been infected.
I watched the youtube video and everything worked out fine until I got to the part where you're supposed to go into the system configuration and find the path of the registry. When I run msconfig and go to the startup tab, the 8-digit startup item is not in that list... is that something I should be concerned about or am I fine?

The article/video was a lifesaver when it came to removing Security Tool... unfortunately , the virus/trojan that is causing ST to get on my computer in the first place just won't go away.
I bought Spyware Doctor on your recommendation, did a full scan and removed several trojans, but even though it says the threat is gone, after I restart my computer. Security Tool is right back in action.
Basically the trojan seems to me undetectable by Spyware Doctor. pretty frustrating, not really sure what to do besides reformat at this point.

Thanks for all the comments, I will try them to remove the Security Tool Virus. Does anyone know whether the virus is hacking into computer systems for personal ID information? We've stopped payment on the credit card, which worked, but should I be concerned about the hacker getting personal info stored on my computer?

Thank you guys SO much for the help. I'm not too good with computers but I simply followed your video on YouTube and it did the trick. I haven't yet figured out how to clean up the Registry but at least my comuter works again.
One thing that messed me up a little was after I renamed the file and rebooted. I'd suggest to not copy and paste the file name but rather to browse to it. I tried to copy and paste and somehow it reinstalled the Security Tool file. So, I love your helpful video but I'd say browse for the renamed file when you go to delete it.

You very well may not have any of the above items in the registry or they may of changed. Best thing is to run a few scan using whatever security software you like the most. This is needed anyways to ensure you do not have any trojans and the like on your computer.
re-boot into safe mode and try it there. Other wise try to re-name it a few more times. You may have to re-boot your computer 3-4 times but eventually you should be able to re-name it.
You could also download the process killer tool we mention and run that. After you run it you should be able to stop the needed process and then just delete the trace file instead of re-naming it.

I am running xp pro. I have tried to remove registry files for antivirus soft but alot do not appear to be on registry entries under the (regedit). I have printed the removal instructions from a different computer. Would they be different for xp pro?

No you may not have the file sysguard.exe on your computer. These rogue security clients mutate and change all the time.
I would simply recommend you run a full scan using what ever security client you like best to ensure you have nothing else on your computer. Make sure your client is updated with the latest updates as well.

Question: I only found and deleted the "...sftav" file from my computer, as I couldn't find the "...sysguard.exe" file. Is there still definitely a file on my computer by the name of "...sysguard.exe"?
I tried downloading the program to help, but my PC said, "your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." Should I take my PC out of safe mode w/ networking? I want to purchase the Spyware Doctor w/ Antivirus because obviously my Trend Micro didn't prevent me from getting the Security Tool virus!!
