3. Software and Services to help you remove Live Security Platinum

Live Security Platinum is a virus. These kind of viruses are known as malware. The scan results given off by Live Security Platinum are misleading. The warning messages about your computer being infected and that someone is hacking in are false. The program is meant to trick the user into thinking they have been infected with a virus and then to offer the solution as you registering the software. Of course the software cost money and that is how the makers of Live Security Platinum get paid. They are simply tricking or scaring the user to force the operator to make a purchase. The scam is nothing new and these malware clients are prevalent. This program has gone through several variations in the past including Smart Fortress 2012, MS Removal Tool, Smart Protection 2012, Personal Shield Pro and System Progressive Protection to name a few.

What is Live Security Platinum?

Live Security Platinum is a fake antivirus program.. All the scan results and warnings given off are bogus.

How Did I get infected with Live Security Platinum?

Too many ways to count how your computer got infected. In many cases these malware clients require the operators help to install. If you were asked to install a program recently then that is the most likely cause. It’s normal for malware to be named a video update or codec. Once the user downloads and install the program they have just actually installed this malware client.

There are other ways like visiting a website that is malicious. If you do not have a good antivirus client you may become infected with a virus through something known as a Drive By Download. Many websites are hacked by others and injected with malicious code. The website owner may not even know it.

What is Live Security Platinum Doing to My Computer Right Now?

At this time removevirus.org does not believe Live Security Platinum is doing any file damage on personal documents. It also is not stealing passwords or banking information. It will block programs from running so you are unable to use your computer. The makers goal is to force you into a corner by not letting you use your computer till you purchase the bogus client.

Live Security Platinum Manual Removal Procedures

You first goal is going to be able to stop Live Security Platinum from running. To do this we need to stop a single file on your computer. Once stopped this virus will no longer be running.

The virus name is like the below (See Video for Guidance)

  • [random].exe ( Example is eAaEmPkGdEd01804.exe ) Your file trace will be named different.

To Stop this process you can

A. Browse to the file location shown below and re-name the file first and then restart your computer. Then browse to that file location again and delete the file.

B.  Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file. Again look at the file path below. You can also boot into “safe mode with networking” and download Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You will be able to install it and run the virus scan. Learn how to boot into safe mode here

C: Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file.

E:  Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

The next step in Live Security Platinum removal is to delete the following file:

Windows XP:

  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\[random]\[random].exe
  • New Path C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data

Windows Vista/7:

  • C:\ProgramData\[random characters ]\[random characters].exe
  • New Path C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local
  • New Path C:\ProgramData\[random characters]\[random characters].exe (Please NOTE  ProgramData is a hidden folder)

Once you have deleted the above executable, Live Security Platinum will no longer be running. At this time you need to run a full virus scan. RUN THE  SCAN!. We recommend wither Spyware Doctor with Antivirus or Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You need to ensure no other viruses are on your computer.  So many people skip this very simple step.  Take an extra few min tues and ensure you have all the viruses removed.

If you can’t seem to delete this virus you can hire a professional to help. We recommend www.pcninja.com

Live Security Platinum Registry Removal Procedures

We do not recommend editing the registry manually.

  • KEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunOnce “[random]”

Live Security Platinum Directories:

XP

  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\[random]
  • New Path C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data

Windows 7 / Windows Vista

  • C:\ProgramData\[random characters ]\[random characters].exe
  • New Path C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local
  • C:\ProgramData\[random characters]\

Conclusion

Like with most malware clients the actual removal process can be hard for many users. The makers don’t want it to be easy to remove their software. They want you to purchase it. Once you are able to kill off the main file of this program it’s rather easy to remove. If you want software to protect you in the future we recommend Spyware Doctor with Antivirus because it works to remove and protect you from viruses. PCNinja is the remote computer repair company we like to recommend out.

  2. okay so I went to my computer and then to my C drive and then to program data and there was no folder in there like the one you are suggesting. I don’t know what else to do or where else to look. I have Windows XP

Thanks for the tip. In case you need to learn how (My guess is you already know but for others) we have a guide on this under the how to guides section. http://www.removevirus.org/show-hidden-files-and-folders

      • our files and folders are not hidden. I went into control panel, then folder options, then view, then down to hidden files and folders and it is already marked “show hidden files and folders” As for the link given by jerdei I went to it just to try and it said to go into internet explorer and click on tools and then click on folder options… but is that right? I don’t know how you would fix your computers files and folder through internet explorer for one thing and also folder options wasn’t an option under my “tools” tab.

        • Anonymous says

If you files and folders are not marked to hidden you are good to go and can view the folder paths needed to remove this virus.

The article I linked to does not say anything about going into internet explorer. That is a web browser that has nothing to do with showing hidden files and folders.

If you have a specific question to ask feel free to ask it. Please state your Operating System and the step in the guide you are trying to acomplish

          • Okay so I have “show hidden files and folders” marked on my computer. I watched the above video on how to manually delete the virus and I am trying to follow what it said. I went into My Computer, went to the C drive, clicked on the ProgramData folder, and there is no folder being displayed like the ones talked about in the video. Any ideas as to where I could find the correct folder then? Windows XP is the operating system.

          • Anonymous says

You need to read the manual guide. The folder paths for xp are in there

            XP

            C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Data[random]
New Path C:Documents and SettingsUSER NAMELocal SettingsApplication Data

It’s not under the ProgramData folder in XP

I do not recommend free AV clients. Paid clients are the way to go for real upfront and updated protection. I am very glad we were able to help get your issue sorted.
